Avoid damage to your M.2 device. Here are the proper techniques to store, unpack, and install the M.2 device. After installation of the hardware, it may be necessary to initialize the drive before it can be used.
Keep the device in the protective anti-static container until you are ready to install.
To minimize static electricity, which could damage the device, ground yourself by either touching a non-painted metal surface or wearing proper anti-static gloves and wrist strap.
Handle the device with care. Do not touch the gold connectors. Always hold the device on the sides to avoid damaging the components.
We recommend the following method to prepare the motherboard for installation of an M.2 device. This method is an example of the proper connection and attachment. The proper method may vary. Consult your motherboard or system vendor for extra guidance. The standoff height for the screw should be compatible with the connector height, making the M.2 device level. You may need another standoff for your motherboard. Consult your motherboard vendor or user guide for more information.
Figure 1 and 2 demonstrate a correct set up with spacer and an improper height without spacer which leads to device damage. If you don't use a spacer, take special care to only apply gentle pressure during screw installation.
Figure 3 Once the motherboard is prepared, we recommend following this M.2 installation procedure
